ABOUT
Projeto Afro is an Afro-Brazilian platform mapping and promoting Black artists. The project aims to broaden and give visibility to the artistic production of Black authorship in Brazil, presenting its multiplicity, interconnections and broader reach. A space for discovery and redefinition.
The initiative positions itself as a manifesto in defense of racial equality, in light of social data which continues to illustrate that Black individuals still occupy the margins of society. Projeto Afro affirms Black protagonism beyond territorial limits, reflecting on the hegemonic historical processes that have validated the art system across the country. We suggest a new perspective on such narratives, rooted in collaboration and exchange.
The content, resulting from over six years of research – presented here and still ongoing – invites each visitor to explore various aspects of this production: an interactive map, artists’ profiles, collaborative articles and interviews, academic papers and event suggestions. Creating a comprehensive body of systematized research in a space dedicated to expression.
Explore. Discover. Engage.
Projeto Afro is open to anyone wishing to discuss or comment on image and/or text usage rights on this platform, given that certain artists and/or legal representatives may not have responded to requests or have not been identified or located. Please contact us at contato@projetoafro.com.
